Biography
Nathan Salazar is a saxophonist based in Cleveland, Ohio.
As a soloist, Salazar has won several accolades, including winning the Marquette Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, Michigan State University (MSU) Concerto Competition, and Arizona State University Concerto Competition, receiving 2nd place in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Woodwind Competition, and was a finalist in the Brevard Jean and Beatie Wood Concerto Competition and The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Collegiate Solo Competition. As a recital soloist, Salazar has performed at St. Olaf College, Oakland University, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Spring Arbor University, and Albion College.
An active chamber musician, Salazar performed with various saxophone quartets based in Michigan and Arizona. As the soprano saxophone chair of Quartet Samod, Salazar performed recitals at Western Michigan University, Albion College, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Western Illinois University. The ensemble has also been awarded 3rd prize at the Barbara Wagner Chamber Music Competition and was recognized as a finalist for the MTNA Chamber Winds Competition and the NASA Saxophone Quartet Competition, as well as a semifinalist for the Coltman Chamber Music Competition. Salazar was the alto saxophone chair of the Seyon Quartet. Seyon was a guest performing group at Midwestern State University, Brookhaven College, West Texas A&M University, and Chamber Music Montana. Seyon received first prize at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and second Prize at the MTNA Chamber Winds Competition. Salazar has also performed as substitute baritone saxophonist with the nationally renowned Capitol Quartet.
Salazar performs regularly as an orchestral saxophonist and has performed under the batons of conductors such as Keith Lockhart, Timothy Muffitt, John Varineau, Ken Lam, Jayce Ogren, Jeffery Meyer, Anne Harrigan, and Bruce Keisling. Salazar has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Adrian Symphony Orchestra Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and the ASU Symphony Orchestra.
A dedicated teacher, Salazar is the Lecturer of Saxophone at Baldwin Wallace University and the Adjunct Instructor of Saxophone at Cleveland State University. Salazar previously taught at Albion College, Spring Arbor University, and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School.
